I am in shock and have been wondering why her profile had no place for messages.

Cookie had talents as a writer.  She was clever, smart, very creative, outrageous and had bigger balls than me.  I just saw her son in a play in L.A., "The Boy who Hated Mothers"  A new take on Peter Pan.  John Rice AKA Jackson Evens was great.  If she watched his performance from the other side she must be very proud.

Because of our last conversation in 2012 I think she was tired of this incarnation and wanted a fresh start with a new one.

I write because this is Carolyn's (Cookie) birthday and for the first time in over fifty years I cannot contact her. She was a wonderful friend who was warm, insightful, amazingly bright  and hilariously funny.  Our friendship survived physical distances and even periods of limited contact because we were both so busy with our daily lives. It didnt' matter at the time because we always just picked up where we left off. Somehow, now it matters. After surviving Stage 4 cancer and resuming her active life, working , playing and making friends wherever she went Cookie became an ardent advocate of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.   She was a rabid Penn State  (which we both attended) fan and devotee of  Joe Paterno. We spent so many hours  talking and writing and laughing and crying over the scandal at Penn State that Cookie signed me up for the South Arizona Penn State Alumni Club despite the fact that I live in Fort Lauderdale. Sometimes nothing changes - she regularly signed me up for school events both in HIgh School and college without warning. Cookie kept up her zest for life until she was unexpectedly taken ill and, as I'm sure for all of our deceased classmates, she is greatly missed by her many friends and most of all by the children of  whom she was so proud. Sara who lives in Virginia and John who lives in the Chicago area.  I miss her but am quite sure that she is planning to watch the Reunion(. which we were going to attend together)  from wherever she is perched looking down on us ,For sure, she is telling jokes and making Joe Paterno (who wasn't even head coach at Penn State when we met him) laugh.
